New-Old-Stock Campagnolo Centaur Double Crankarm Set (172.5 mm) Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. This offering is for a new-old-stock Campagnolo (Campy) Centaur double crankarm set that is 172.5 mm in length and has a 135 mm bolt circle diameter (BCD). For those that are interested, the Centaur groupset replaced the Daytona groupset in 2002, which was also the period when Campy migrated this groupset from the 9-speed to the 10-speed drivetrain. When I say replaced, everything I have read and been told is the change was in name only. The same Daytona quality is here with the Centaur groupset.

More specifically, and as it relates to these crankarm sets, they are made from a forged aluminum alloy. So they should be fairly strong and their finish is typical Campy... These Centaur crankarm sets were made mostly during Campy's 10-speed era (from 2002 - 2006), but it's really their chainrings that determine drivetrain compatibility (so please see notes below concerning their drivetrain adaptability). Please also note the Centaur crankarms are the first (or entry-level) model that Campy considers among it's higher-end offerings. This is not to say the Centaur groupset is on par with Chorus or Record, because it's not...

But Campy did see fit to equip the Centaur crankset with Ultra-Drive rings (as standard), which are generally reserved for Campy's better quality crankset offerings. Other specs worth noting include the English threaded bolt-holes for 9/16 pedal spindles and the square-tapered holes for a bottom bracket with an ISO tapered spindle and a total (spindle) length of 111 mm. The other interesting specification that is probably not as widely known concerns the thickness of the chainring mounting arms. Sure enough, caliper measurements confirmed there is very little difference between higher-end Campy 9-speed and 10-speed crankarms (at these chainring mounting points). Additionally, we have been told the same holds true for Campy's higher-end 7/8-speed crankarms... Meaning their thickness at the chainring mounting points is relatively consistent with the aforementioned 9/10-speed crankarms. Now this is not necessarily that big of a deal, as spacers are available to push chainrings farther apart to achieve appropriate spacing for nearly any drivetrain.

As a result, even Ultra Drive 10-speed chainrings may be fitted to a 7/8/9-speed drivetrain with appropriate spacers inserted/installed to accommodate the wider chain that is generally used with these older drivetrains. Please also note when installing spacers, the most common practice on a double crankarm is to insert them between the large chainring and the crankarm.

As for condition, these crankarm sets were bulk-packed, so we usually see some shopwear on these offerings. Since we are nearing the end of our stocks in these crankarm sets (in this model/size/finish), we have begun updating the pictures. As I look over this offering, I want to confirm it's relatively clean and shows well.

There is some light shopwear (scuffs and scratches), but the overall cosmetic condition is still nice, especially when considering this crankarm set has been in storage for nearly 20 years. You may visit our store by clicking on this "Store Home Page".
